Week 35 and a peek at the nursery

by Mindi Stavish on March 29, 2011

The baby has seemed to shift positions or is just plain running out of room because I’m now up at least 3-4 times a night to go to the bathroom (just this week)- ugh.  I’m also starting to feel like my skin is stretching and it is painful the more active I am.  Other than that no real complaints….time is flying by with only 4 more weeks left and 3 weeks until I am on maternity leave!!  It seems so crazy that this pregnancy is almost over but I’m really looking forward to the next part.  The cuddle nursing sessions, the sweet baby smell, watching him sleep and watching all those first milestones.

This weekend I made some progress on baby related stuff to do…not as much as I would have liked to get done but that’s fine.  I did the fourth and final white paint coat on the mural, which will be complete once the owl is painted.  Adrian is doing that part and I’m excited to see what he comes up with.  Overall I really love how it looks. It was going to be all white and then Adrian suggested I do some accent colors for the birds and a few of the leaves.  I think the colors bring it more to life.

Remember how I mentioned I bought some fabric for the crib sheets awhile ago?  Well, I finally felt motivated to sew the sheets.  This was my first attempt at making any sort of bedding and they came out well.  Yes, they actually fit the mattress!  The first sheet I sewed a casing for the elastic and thread the elastic through the entire sheet.  Seems easy enough yet this step took longer than measuring, cutting and sewing the sheet did.  So with the second sheet I just sewed the elastic to the corners, which I honestly thought would be easier.  Easier- maybe but it didn’t look as finished.  Mind you no one sees the bottom of the sheet anyway since it’s tucked into the mattress but I am worried about how well it’s going to hold up through all the washings.  Time will tell.

Second sheet- how adorable is this fabric?!

The second project that I have been working on is baby S’s green wrap sweater that he will wear coming home from the hospital.  I completed one of the sleeves on the ride to the circus on Saturday and then 90% of the the other in the car on Sunday while riding to the commissary.  Tonight I finished it up while catching up on TV.  My plan is to block it tomorrow night and sew it all together throughout the week.  I will have almost a full skein of yarn left so probably will knit a matching hat.  Before I do that though I plan to start knitting Xander’s easter bunny, which I’m excited to start.
