When my brother and I were kids we would play outdoors in the neighborhood all day long. We grew up in the housing projects in Maine but it was relatively safe. As safe as a project can be in the 80′s and 90′s can be. Generally we stayed around our house and played with the neighborhood kids. I have good memories of wandering through the woods and building forts for hours. It was a different time back then. Now parents just can’t do that, without being judged for being an irresponsible parent. We also can’t do that for safety reasons. It just doesn’t seem like the best idea. I’m thankful we have a back yard our boys will be able to play in. We eventually will hire someone to build a fence around the yard, which will be nice. As Xander and Noah get older I’ll be able to send them outside to play outback, while I clean the house or cook dinner. Lately after daycare Adrian has been playing hockey or baseball with Xander once they get home. Last Thursday, after I picked him up we played some baseball in the yard. It was nice to enjoy the crisp fall weather, while we can. The foliage right now is breathtaking!
