I Finally Stopped to Capture Beauty

by Mindi Stavish on July 11, 2012

As I try to see my surroundings through a photographers eye, I am constantly inspired by my every day surroundings. I’m still learning about light and shadows, but it’s a work in progress. Every evening on my drive home from work I admire a small farm with horses and think to myself, “Self, you really need to put your camera in the car so you can attempt to take decent photos of them when the light is right.”. Well, most of the time when the light is right I don’t have my camera with me. You see the thing that is most incredible about this stretch of farm is that it faces a very busy highway, which is often backed up during rush hour. It’s a breath of fresh air while I’m inpatiently sitting in traffic just wanting to get home to the boys.

Finally the stars aligned at the end of May (yes it has taken me that long to get to writing this post!) and I was able to take some photos of the horses during the evening magic hour. We were driving home from a fun day at the beach. Both boys passed out early into the drive and as I was reaching the horse farm the light was perfect. I still hadn’t read more about photographing a sunset, but thought I would give it a shot. Here are the results SOOC (straight out of camera). Editing is next on my list of “stuff to do in all my free time”.overlooking horseanother horse at sunsetwhite horsehorse eating Sharing my love for Wordless Wednesday!

Beautiful! I rather like the one where they’re looking towards the barn.

Beautiful horses. I used to own an Arabian mare named Ellie. She died unexpectedly three years ago and I miss her every day. I hope to own a horse again down the road.

I am your newest follower from the Aloha blog hop.

I bet those were pretty horses! I know how sad it is to lose a pet. We recently lost our cat of 9 years and it was very hard. I still miss her a ton. The house seems empty without her around.
