Building Our House

Happy birthday house!! One year later…

by Mindi Stavish on December 16, 2011

It’s hard to believe that just a  year ago today we closed on our house and one of my dreams came true. I became one of the very fortunate people to live in a house. Not a postage stamp size apartment, not a townhouse, not a condo but a house with a back yard, multiple bathrooms and lots of room for my children to run and play. Our journey of building a house was exciting and fun. We definitely had lots of exciting life events going on at the same time. The day we signed our loan contract I found out I was pregnant! So as the house grew in size, so did my belly.

Ground Breaking

First wall goes up

and as more walls go up mommy gets more and more pregnant..

Hello second floor

and the house continues to expand..

Brick completed!

once the dry wall was up changes occurred at a rapid rate, while my belly grew much more slowly (thankfully!)

Week 14

Dry wall is complete

Week 17

Checking out the steps to our front door

19 weeks

and just two days before closing we found out the nursery would be decorated in BOY colors..

Final walk through

Closing day was snowy and cold.

I will always remember the first time I unlocked the door...

..and then the military packed up our townhouse and moved it all into our new house.

Wrapping presents and packing boxes

We unpacked the kitchen on Christmas eve….along with bought a new tree and decorated it. Seriously, what were we thinking??

Organized chaos of sorts

It was totally worth it to see the smile on his face as we put up the tree and built new memories in our own home.

Our little Xmas elf

One year later we have two little boys filling the house with laughter and mess. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have many hopes and dreams for our future as a family in this house. Birthday celebrations, first steps, welcoming a third child, large dinners with friends and family and endless conversation. It’s exciting to think what the future will bring.

You never know what he's going to do next

Welcome to Our House

by Mindi Stavish on September 16, 2011

After almost 9 months of living in our house the entry way finally looks inviting. I guess I never took a picture of the entry way right after we moved in (or I just can’t locate the photo). Here it is about a month before the house was complete.

The mirror, chest and rug are all from Bassett Furniture. I love how it looks together! So very inviting.

We have been looking at the Montrose Set at Basset Furniture since last fall, when we were building our house. Garage update part 2…cars are back in the garage

April 27, 2011 Building Our House

The garage contractor came this morning around 10 and spent at least an hour fixing our garage door. He said it was a combination of the Lowes contractor (who installed the garage door opener) and the guys who installed the actual garage taking short cuts that lead to it’s collapse. He fixed it all and [...]
