Four is the magical age. Fully potty trained. Full of opinions and statements. Imagination falling out the ears. A time to start organized sports.
This spring we signed Xander up for Tee Ball, with no real idea of how it would go. The first few weeks were a bit rocky. The weather has been cold and rainy for almost every practice. The first two practices Xander wouldn’t leave the bench. It seems my boy was paralyzed with fear of the unknown. His shyness got the best of him. Slowly he came around though. Daddy brought him to practice number three and went on the field to help out. This really made Xander feel more at ease. I loved watching my boy out on the field, running the bases, swinging at the ball, and genuinely having a fun time.
At the end of last week, Xander really turned a corner during practices. He started going onto the field by himself and soaking in the information the coach has been teaching him. He is so wonderful with the kids and this I’m thankful for.
As a child I was much like Xander, shy and reserved. Not to mentioned completely uncoordinated. Sports did not come naturally to me. My mom never encouraged me to try any sport out in elementary school. By the time I entered junior high I wanted nothing more than to be part of a team. I tried out for cheerleading but failed miserably. Then I “ran” indoor track and field for part of a season, yet failed again. Perhaps it would have been easier with an adult cheering me on.
No matter how athletic or uncoordinated Xander is when it comes to sports, I will be there cheering him on. My job as a parent is to guide him along the way and introduce him to new activities and sports. Of course I would love for him to be successful at whatever he is doing, but most importantly I want him to love what he is doing.
Today is the team’s first game and I couldn’t be more excited about it. I can’t wait to see Xander put on his uniform and walk onto the field. You bet I’ll be on the sidelines with my camera and IPhone in hand. My mommy heart will be filled with pride, joy and love. He is my son and I will be cheering for yet another milestone in his life.
The beginning of team sports also means teaching Xander how to take care of his equipment. After the first practice, I realized we needed to find a way to label his bat, glove, batting helmet, and baseball cap. Have you tried to pick out your child’s helmet from a pile of 10 other helmets that look alike? Not an easy task. With the help of Kiddo Tags, my husband easily labeled all of the equipment in less than 5 minutes. The directions were clearly stated on the labels and the labels were easy to peel and place.
These waterproof tags can withstand dirt, rain and sweat. Additionally, the cute animal on the tags and the bright color makes it easy for Xander to identify his equipment.
The tags are also great for snack boxes and water bottles.
Kiddo Tags sells clothing labels that I was able to easily stick to Xander’s uniform hat, pants and t-shirt.
Another great product from Kiddo Tags is their Social Kiddos Playdate Cards. Xander is still a bit too young to be dropped off for a playdate at a friend’s house, but I know the time will come quicker than I want. When it does, we will have these information cards. Each pack of Social Kiddo Cards comes with a sharpie marker, stickers, business cards, and a cute leather carrying case
Whether you need to label sporting equipment or clothing for daycare, Kiddo Tags has a wide variety of adorable peel and stick tags. Best of all, they are printed in the USA and the company is operated by a work-at-home mom. Follow Kiddo Tags on Twitter or find them on Facebook.
