Review

In honor of my learn how to knit series, I would like to share with you the beautiful Christmas stocking patterns written by Judith Tollefson. Judy hails from my home state of Maine and has many passions including calligraphy, graphic design, kitchen design, garden design, sewing, knitting and needlepoint. She has taught calligraphy, knitting and needlepoint courses.

Years ago Judy designed her house and many of the materials that were used to build the house were from her grandparent’s barn, that she used to play in as a child. Her house is now situated on the land her grandparents bought back in the 1920′s. How very special is that?

After moving into her house, she decided she needed the perfect Christmas stocking to display during the holidays. When she couldn’t find the “perfect one”, she decided to design her own. After much ripping, tearing, and brainstorming, she finally came up with two patterns that she was relatively happy with and displayed them for the season.

Following Christmas, she made adjustments to the stockings and decided to launch her Christmas Stocking Collection. A year later, she showed her 2007 Christmas Stocking Collection.  Two years after that her designs appeared in the Christmas Edition of Vogue Knitting, which is big stuff in the knitting world.

I had the pleasure of reviewing one of Judy’s Christmas Stocking Kits, which includes a pattern and all of the yarn to complete the project. Judy’s Christmas Stocking Kits range from classic Christmas red and green colors with snowflakes and trees to elegant white and green motifs. With so many beautiful choices, I had a difficult time narrowing it down. I finally decided on the distinct Cars and Trucks pattern, for Xander.

Each pattern is written easily and will be a breeze for knitters who are comfortable with Fair Isle (stranded color work) and knitting in the round. If you are new to knitting, this kit would be a great goal for you to aim to achieve. The second year I learned to knit, I set out a goal to learn Fair Isle, took a private lesson, and knit my first color work hat.  I am now addicted to the beauty of color work patterns.

The Cars and Truck pattern took me a little over a month and a half to complete and I love how it came out. Is it perfect? No. I have several mistakes in the color work, because I was either tired or just not paying attention. Lucky for me, most of the errors are on one entire side, so I will be displaying the nearly error free side.

Judy sells her Christmas Stocking and  Mitten Patterns, as well as Stocking and Mitten Kits. Please visit her shop to ogle over her amazing designs. You can find Judy on  Facebook at Judy’s Colors or sign up for her monthly newsletter.

Finished Object: Handknit Milan Jacket for Noah

by Mindi Stavish on August 28, 2012

I finished this sweater months and months ago, but it has been way too hot to get some pictures of Noah wearing it. Last week we had a brisk morning so I took advantage of the great light for a mini photo session with my little redhead. I’m so sad that Noah really isn’t going to get a whole lot of wear out of this.  Fall in DC is still warm until October, so he will probably grow out of it before then.  I should have knit one size larger.  I just can’t get enough of these pictures!

Ravellenic Games Social Media Link Up

August 7, 2012 Knitting

So you may remember that I’m participating in the Ravellenic Games throughout the Summer Olympics. My project is the Providence Hoodie from the New England Knits book and I’m knitting it with Tess Designer Yarns. The yarn is amazing and the pattern is fun BUT I’ve had some bumps along the way. One word: BlogHer12. [...]

Let the Ravellenic Games Begin!

July 29, 2012 Knitting

I’m a bit late with this post but if you know anything about me that is the norm.  If procrastination was an Olympic Sport I would probably take the gold and my husband would be a close silver medal.  I can only hope our boys don’t pick up this nasty habit.  In case you have [...]

May 8, 2012 Knitting

The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival is a huge event where fibre loving people from everywhere gather at the Howard County Fairground to touch yarn of all colors and types, savor each bite of deep-fried Oreos, show and shear sheep and more. This was my fourth year attending the festival. Last year we went as a [...]
