Now that this gift has been delivered and worn I can finally blog about it. This is one of my favorite baby or toddler sweaters to knit because of the simple cable up the middle. I have a thing for babies wearing cables. I first knit this sweater 2 years ago for Xander’s first birthday. Here is the result:
This time I was excited to knit for a girl and couldn’t resist the fuchsia pink.

Today’s Toddle Along Tuesday topic is baby fashion. I love shopping for baby and toddler clothes and who doesn’t. Tiny clothes are just stinking cute. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that mom’s with boys are limited in their selection of clothes though. Most stores have racks upon racks of girls clothes and a few racks with boys clothes. I can only buy so many striped shirts and sweater vests before I want to poke my eyes out from boredom. I could accessorize with shoes but Xander has wide feet and the only place I can find wide shoes are at Stride Rite. I do love the shoe selection there but they are not cheap. Noah barely keeps shoes on his feet other than Robeez (yet another addiction of mine). I love adorable hats on boys, but Xander hasn’t kept a hat on his head (other than his Oklahoma football hat) since he was about a year old. Thankfully Noah hasn’t figured out the whole “I can pull my hat off” trick, but I’m sure it’s coming.
There are many adorable online shops that specialize in cute boy clothes but I can’t bring myself to spend $16.00 on a T-shirt just because it doesn’t have a baseball, puppy dog, or dinosaur on it. Carters why must you think all boys need to sport a onsie or outfit with dogs plastered all over it? We don’t even own a dog! My favorite “go to” clothing items when I’m shopping for the boys are plaid or solid color button up shirts and sweaters. In the summer I usually dress them in plaid shorts and plain tops or khaki shirts and printed shirts. My all time favorite clothing items to dress them in are sweaters or vests that I’ve knit. I know there will come a day when they don’t want to wear a sweater knit by mom, so until then I’m enjoying it. Here are some of my favorites…

I do have several favorite clothing items and outfits, as well. As much as I complain that the choices are limited there is something to be said for the blue jeans and stripe polo shirt look on any little boy.

The boys don’t have very many matching outfits but occasionally I splurge and find similar tops. I love the colors in these shirts.

When I was pregnant with Noah I was dreaming of all the cute girl clothes I could spend our money on. My dreams of pink were squashed when I found out I was having a boy, but now can’t imagine my life any other way. Lucky for me Noah has been able to use all of Xander’s clothes matching the right season to the right clothing size. Maybe someday I’ll be able to shop in the land of pink, but for now I continue to knit.
