Easter 2013

by Mindi Stavish on April 2, 2013

We had another fun holiday on Easter weekend here in the Stavish house. Before heading to the circus on Saturday afternoon, we colored Easter eggs.  It was fun watching both the boys really get in to it this year!

Easter morning was filled with chocolate, jelly beans, lego building and rabbit hunting. It’s crazy to see just how much these boys have grown over the past year.

Some things don’t change!  A year later, they were just as excited to bite into their chocolate bunnies. Can you blame them?

The Easter bunny left lots of loot for both of the boys.

Since the weather was too cold and rainy, we had a mini easter egg hunt around the house. Both boys were pros at hunting down the eggs. Note the extra large shopping bag Noah decided to grab from the mudroom to store his eggs in.

Last year, Adrian started a new Easter tradition carried on from his family- hiding a realistic looking bunny outside for the boys. Since it was raining this year, we didn’t venture into the yard.  Instead he hid Mr. Bunny just outside the backdoor. Both boys were amazed at the new fuzzy creature that came to say hello.  They quickly became petrified when Adrian pretended to capture the bunny in a shopping bag and bring it in the house. Oh the memories they will have!

Of course no holiday is complete without a delicious meal, which included spiral cut ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans and for dessert bunny cake and peach pie.

We hope your Easter was as special as ours!

The holidays have come and gone. The calendar reads February 21st, which means spring is less than a month away yet t he thermometer outside reads 27 degrees.  Blooming flowers and green grass seem so far away! My body forgot what it feels like to be warm without needing a million layers of clothing. My skin is dry and cracked. My children desperately need to run and play.

It is the dead of winter.

During this time, it is so easy to want to fall into the “woe is me” mindset. The cold weather and short winter days can make anyone feel Yet, I refuse to let the winter blahs win. Happiness is what you make of it. Happiness is not just a feeling but a way of living. It’s about putting your two feet on the floor in the morning (even if they are frozen!) and greeting the day with a smile. So, I ask you…

happiness post

Happiness for me is…

feeling my children’s small arms around my neck.

being greeted with a kiss from my husband when he arrives at the door from work.

feeling my toes in the sand on a warm summer day.

warm flannel sheets on a cold winter night.

the purring of my kitty, snuggled up next to me.

the clicking of my needles as I knit a tiny hat for my unborn child.

a bare kitchen counter begging to be covered with flour and sugar.

giggles from my boys as I tickle their bellies.

a hot cup of tea.

the silence in the morning, with both the boys snuggled up in our bed.

precious moments for myself.

You see happiness for me isn’t about being on top of my game 100% of the time.  So what if my house has toys scattered everywhere and dust bunnies have collected under the furniture. My happiness is seeing my children grow, laugh and learn. My happiness is nurturing my soul with hobbies that I love. My happiness is watching my family expand.

I challenge you to think about your own happiness. What does it look like? Is it where you want it to be? If not, make some changes and find your happiness. It sure is a long life to live if your not happy.

own your happiness

Hanukkah Traditions

December 12, 2012 Holidays

My mom was raised orthodox Jewish, so her family celebrated Hanukkah. She always wanted to have a Christmas tree, as she loved the beautiful decorations. When she moved out of her parents house to join the Army at 18 she was determined to leave that part of her life behind and wanted no more to [...]

A Long Awaited Reunion with My Brother

October 17, 2012 Family

Last month while on vacation in Maine, I finally met my 4 month old niece and spent some much needed time with my little brother, Zack. The last time I saw him neither one of us had children. Yes, it has been that long! Growing up we were pretty close, even though there was a [...]

Life Bucket List: New England Patriots Game

September 30, 2012 Traveling

Two weeks ago we started off our family vacation by checking off an item on our life bucket list, to see a Pats game in Foxboro. It was such a surreal experience and a day to remember. Surprisingly the Patriots suffered their first loss of the season (boo!), but it didn’t take away from the [...]
