Gone Fishing with a Toddler and Preschooler

by Mindi Stavish on October 5, 2012

While on vacation a few weeks ago Grandpa took the boys fishing at a nearby pond in New Hampshire. Of course grandma, mommy, and daddy came too! Both the boys loved being with nature and learning how to fish.

It was fun to watch their different reactions to the entire process. Xander, the cautions soul, observed Grandpa put the worm on the hook and cast his line. When Grandpa caught a fish X stood back, refusing to touch it.

Noah, my little daredevil, probably would have grabbed the worm and put it in his mouth if I let him. He touched the fish that Grandpa caught and squealed with delight when he watched it swim away. Grandma practically had to hog tie him at times, as he wanted to jump into the chilly water.

Xander loved using his new Batman Fishing Rod (2-Feet 6-Inch). The rod, reel, and plug is made so kids can practice casting for hours. After daddy showed Xander how to cast he immediately went to work casting again and again. Serious cuteness going on!

Grandpa also brought his kayak fishing. Adrian and Noah went out for a ride but Xander was not at all interested- maybe next year! We purchased life jackets for the boys the morning of our fishing adventures. When shopping for life jackets for smaller children, be sure to get one with a neck cradle. We purchased the Stohlquist Infant/Toddler Life Jacket and it fit great.

Surprisingly I enjoyed myself as much as the boys did. I love introducing them to new activities and enjoying family time. The pond was gorgeous and the weather perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our vacation.

Time with Grandparents

by Mindi Stavish on August 3, 2012

On our family vacation a few weeks ago, we had a blast catching up with Cookie Monster at Sesame Place and chasing seagulls away at Rehobeth Beach. We started the trip visiting Adrian’s grandparents in Connecticut. Adrian’s parents came down from New Hampshire for the day, as well. The boys were very excited to see their grandparents and great-grandparents. Memories were made. Some things change. Others don’t. The good and the bad. Family time is really what mattered most though. I think we did a pretty good job at that.

Grandma savored time with her “angel”. grandma and xanderGrandpa and Great-Grandma watched the boys sit quietly while mommy and daddy chased them around as they tried to break everything in the house.mother and sonI loved the sound of his laughter as it filled the room from excitement. xander laughingNoah eventually realized that here is nothing quite like a vacation nap.noah sleepingWhile Xander had lots of time to do the boy thing. monster trucksWe spent a lot of time outside in the backyard to wear the big one out. throwing soccer ballkicking soccer ballA rare family pictures to capture it all. Wordless Wednesday: Family Time

April 18, 2012 Family

Since we are a military family, we have no family “close-by” that we can fall back in a time of need. Most of our family lives in New England, so it takes an entire day to travel there. My dad and step-mom (so excited that they are finally married!) make the long drive to visit [...]

Easter

April 12, 2012 Holidays

After Noah’s exciting first birthday party we had a relaxing Easter on Sunday. A perfect sort of day filled with chocolate and jelly beans for breakfast, time with my parents, and outside fun in the backyard. The Easter bunny brought batman for the big one and a shark towel for the little one. Noah had [...]

A Hoot of a Party

April 11, 2012 Birthdays

Last Saturday we enjoyed celebrating Noah’s first birthday with close friends and family. The weather was perfect and everything came together easily. I will post the party decorations and food later this week. Much of the party was inspired by Pinterest (shocker right). Owls have become pretty popular right now, so there was no shortage [...]
