MD Sheep and Wool Festival

Finished Object: Lisel Sweater

by Mindi Stavish on February 27, 2012

Lately I haven’t been knitting much and it’s making me grumpy. The busier the boys are the less and less free time to have knit. When I do have some free time I am just too tired to want to knit. Must fix this problem. Ever since last year’s Sheep and Wool Festival I vowed to not buy any new yarn until I made a dent in my yarn stash. I’m happy to say I have avoided all yarn stores and temptations online over the past 10 months.
There have been a few exceptions like needing yarn to make the boys matching pumpkin hats, but overall I have been knitting strictly from my stash. With that being said the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival is only 2 months away, so I need to get moving.
I finished the Lisel sweater (Pattern by Yosolda Teague) several months ago, but just got around to sewing on a few buttons. I love just how warm this yarn is.
I love that the Lisel pattern is written for many different weights of yarn, as well as different variations (3/4 sleeve vs long).  I ended up making the smallest size with long sleeves.  Buttons found at Jo Ann Fabrics

Right now I’m working on a sweater jacket with adorable toggle buttons for Noah’s one year photo session. It’s about 60% done, so I must get moving on it.  I also recently completed a sweet little pink cable knit sweater for my dear friend’s daughter who turned one last weekend.  Stay tuned for pictures of the sweater and hopefully of her wearing it!

MD Sheep and Wool Festival

by Mindi Stavish on May 9, 2011

Initially I thought I wouldn’t be able to attend the Sheep and Wool Festival this year since Noah’s due date was April 28th.  His plan of coming early worked out in my favor!  We had wonderful weather for the festival this year – 70 degrees and sunny!  Last year it was sooo hot and the year before that it rained A LOT!  Shopping for yarn and enjoying the animals was a great way to spend mother’s day with my family.

Main Entrance to the Howard County Fairgrounds
Yummy colors from Tess Designer Yarns located in Portland, Maine- one of these years we are
back home I will have to visit the actual store!

Xander enjoying his ride in our new double stroller the Baby Jogger City Select

Noah slept the majority of the festival
Baa Baa

Xander LOVED walking around the Barns and checking out the various sheep.  Many of the sheep were so large that he was calling them cows.  A few of them spooked him when they made noises- too funny!

More pretty colors-love hand dyed yarn!

Xander picked out a small dog stuffed animal

We even saw Santa Claus!- People watching here is always interesting

This year I had certain projects in mind to find yarn for, which I had not done in the past.  I will admit I still have plenty of yarn to knit from the first two years I’ve gone to the Sheep and Wool Festival.  Mainly because I bought single skeins because I liked the colors or feel of the yarn.  I think my plan this year worked out well.

Tess Designer Peruvian Sock Yarn (Hand dyed) 1 skein to make…
Cable Baby Vest by Debbie Bliss
Solana Superwash Wool from Brooks Farm- 2 skeins to make..
Liesel by Ysolda Teague- I plan on making this with long sleeves
Trio Wool/Baby Alpaca/Silk by Brooks Farm- 1 skein to make…
Marching Column Scarf by Debbie Brown
Super pretty Pyrex glass size 6 needles….a splurge!  I cant’ wait to knit with these!
Yowza- Whatta Skein 100% superwash merino wool, color: Indigo Bunting
to make…
Beach Baby by Christine Wilkins- Matching Sweaters for the boys..
I will probably do the fish in orange though
The Sheep and Wool Festival is something I look forward to every year and will continue to attend for a long time to come.  It will be fun to share the event with the boys, especially as they get older.  Until next year I have PLENTY of yarn to keep me busy!

Sheep and Wool Festival

May 1, 2010 Put me in a category

Every year there is a huge festival at the Howard County Fairground in West Friendship, Maryland, which is about an hour drive from our house. Last year was the first year I attended and was amazed at all the different types of yarn and sheep on display. Since Xander was only 2 months old last [...]

The Sheep and Wool festival is held the first weekend in May at a Fairgrounds in Maryland. Last year I didn’t go because I had just started knitting and had no idea what it was all about. This year I ventured out with some friends from my knitting group and had a blast. Much yarn [...]
